Paying tribute to an icon, some of the biggest stars in the music world joined together for the 2012 MusiCares Person Of The Year ceremony to honour former Beatles member, Paul McCartney, in Los Angeles on Friday night.
The British rockstar, who unveiled his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, was toasted by Hollywood at the event put on by organisers of the Grammy awards, bringing out performers including Katy Perry, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Tony Bennett and more.
Also in attendance were celebrity presernters including Hugh Hefner, who showed up with girlfriends Karissa and Kristina Shannon, along with Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson.
McCartney opened the show with a rendition of “Magical Mystery Tour”, while Perry sang a rendition of his hit track “Hey Jude”.
Keys took to the piano to belt out “Blackbird”, while fellow British rockers Coldplay showed off their talents, playing their version of “We Can Work It Out” at the glitzy affair, which was hosted by comedian Eddie Izzard.
During the evening, McCartney told the audience, “For me, obviously it’s great to hear these fantastic artists singing my songs.”
The gala raised $6.5 million following a live auction, with all proceeds going to MusiCares, a foundation that ensures musicians have a place to turn in times of financial, personal, or medical crisis.
