With eight years on the hit show, Jason Segel is bowing out of the ninth season of How I Met Your Mother now that his career as a Hollywood actor has taken off.

Speaking of his successful movie career after roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Knocked Up, The Muppets and most recently The Five Year Engagement, Segel said:

“It’s great to do some ‘Rated R’ stuff again, because I’ve been playing the nice guy for quite a long time now. That’s why I’m gonna quit ‘How I met your Mother’ after the eighth season.”

Jason’s departure could also spell the end for Alyson Hannigan, with sources confirming that she wants off the show too.

At least with both actors moving on, it’ll be easier to write them out of the story together!
